ENVIRONMENTAL PRACTICE
Overview
Since its inception in the 1980’s, JD Energy has recognized the integral role played by environmental issues in forecasting the energy and electricity sectors. Shortly after the passage of the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments that highlighted the impact SO2 and NOx emissions management would have on these areas, JD Energy launched its Environmental Forecasting Service to provide individualized attention to these pollutants as well as to other environmental concerns.
Expertise
JD Energy uniquely combines an economic acumen in anticipating emissions market dynamics with the strong technical foundation of pollution control and combustion engineering needed to understand practical limitations to today’s technologies while simultaneously predicting tomorrow’s environmental innovations. In formulating its environmental forecasts, JD Energy discretely evaluates:
• Recent Emissions Market Activity
• Political and Regulatory Issues (Regional, State and Federal)
• The Impact of Inter-Fuel Competition
• Technology Limitations and Developments
• Short and Long-Term Market Outlook
Publications
Monthly Emission Allowance Price Forecast - This monthly publication succinctly captures the dynamics of SO2, NOx, and mercury market activity in approximately 6-8 pages of text and provides a 24-36 month outlook of month-by-month prices.
Quarterly SO2/NOx/Mercury Emissions Price Forecast – Each quarter JD Energy publishes an in-depth assessment of the market outlook for these pollutants in a narrative of approximately 25 pages supplemented by long-term (20+ year) forecasts, including alternate case scenarios.
Long-Term CO2 Price Forecasts – JD Energy publishes semi-annual assessments of the climate change issue, to include technological, political, and allocation considerations. Alternative CO2 reduction costs and prices are quantified in these forecasts.
Environmental Background Papers – JD Energy makes every effort to provide its forecast documents described above in a punchy, readable format. In order to furnish its readers with more detailed data and explanations, JD Energy issues a series of Background Papers covering not only SO2 and NOx, but a wider range of environmental issues such as Mercury, PM2.5, Regional Haze, Global Warming, etc.
